2022 Johnston Memorial Tournament 11U
BCMBA 2022 Award Presentation
What a strange year it has been for these boys, but talk about making the BEST out of it. Our 18U team played a double header this weekend, their first and last games of the 2021 season and made the most of every moment. The passion and love of the game is evident in every single one of these amazing photos taken by Kristal Burgess Photography. Thank you to the coaches, officials, and parents who made sure there was a little bit of normal in a season that was the farthest thing from normal.
What an amazing Opening Week! 2021 is off to a great start. We have nearly 300 kids ages 4-18 playing for SAMBA this season and they all came ready to play this week. Thank you to all our Division Managers, Coaches, Team Parents, Board of Directors and every one else who has made this season happen in a safe and fun way. Thank you to the parents for helping the kids get to and from practice and for adjusting from the usual to ensure our kids get to play. And thank you to Kristal Burgess Photography for capturing these memories.
We hit it outta the park, Salmon Arm! Salmon Arm Minor Baseball is so pleased to announce the grand opening of the SASCU Batting Cage at Klahani Park. This beautiful dual lane cage will serve baseball lovers for many years to come, and we couldn't have done it without the amazing support of our community. Projects of this nature, when taken on by a dedicated group of volunteers, can take time. You not only need vision, dedication, and a plan, but the funds to make it a reality as well. Six years later, and this plan has come to fruition. Way back in 2015, Scott Steward and Mark Delleman first contacted the City of Salmon Arm and notified them of the growing need for a batting cage for Salmon Arm Minor Baseball. They wrote letters, attended council meetings, and ensured that council understood the needs of our baseball community. After several visits and requests by Scott and Mark, the City expressed support of their vision, and the first critical step of the project was complete – gaining support and access to land from the city. Over the next several years, SAMBA plugged away at fundraising, plans, and designs - careful to make the right choice for the baseball community. In 2019, with the help board members Lance Pass (President) Troy Spence ( VP) and Kristen Steward (Division Manager), SAMBA partnered with SASCU on the project which ensured it would move forward. With a substantial financial contribution, SAMBA was well on their way! And then Covid hit. Like many youth sports organizations, all attention was focused on providing kids with a safe way to stay playing, and the batting cage plan had to be put on hold, temporarily. Thankfully, SAMBA had an outstanding volunteer base, and when Lori Deisroth stepped up to the plate to get an action plan in place, everything started to come together once again. Lori and her husband Pete were instrumental in finding quotes, analyzing products, and giving the board a clear path forward. Lori was the go to on all things batting cage, and her tenacity got us back on track. With a structure chosen, the City on board, and a new year that looked more normal, SAMBA set out to raise some funds. And this is where the community came together! The 2021 sponsorship drive began with a grant from the Shuswap Community Foundation, and continued to grow netting enough donations to not only build a batting cage, but to build an amazing one at that! The original goal for 2021 was to just build the cage and hang nets, and to focus on the turf in subsequent years. But Salmon Arm did what it always does – the community showed up with donations above our biggest dreams. Canoe Forest Products made our top donation which allowed us to install top quality turf that will last for years, while Dawson Construction donated the fill materiel for the entire 36x75' base. In total, the community provided well in excess of $50,000 in cash and services. Unreal! The construction of a batting cage isn't easy. But with the knowledge and dedication of our SAMBA volunteers, we got the job done. With Sean Weissenborn taking the lead, he worked along side Scott Steward, and Clint Harrison, and Wyatt and Drake Weissenborn for countless hours. Nearly every weekend of their spring and summer was spent working at the batting cage. Setting poles, hanging nets, building a base, laying fabric, compacting ground and shovelling so much dirt. Without the hard work and dedication of these men, all of the donated materials would still be a pile on the ground. Thank you to the AMAZING community Sponsors and volunteers who made this dream a reality! This batting cage is here because of you.
